Rinascente- Italian "Harrods"

Rinascente is a place to be in Milan for every clothes addict woman. It is a big department store with 150 years of history. I'm personally interested not only about what's inside but also about the building itself. After a research, I can share with you some facts about Rinascente.

Everything has started in 1865 when the brothers Luigi and Ferdinando Bocconi opened their first fabric and tailoring shop at the corner of Via Santa Radegonda in Milan. By the following year, they were employing more than one hundred workers, tailoring off-the-peg suits for men.

They were successful with their business and opened stores in different cities in Italy like Turin or Rome. The interesting fact is that La Rinascente was officially registered under this name on 27th September 1917. This huge store opened to the public on 7 December 1918, in the building in Piazza del Duomo, which unfortunately was destroyed in a fire a few days after the inauguration.

After the reconstruction we can see the building till these days and it is shocking outside and inside. It has 7 floors, where on the top it is an expensive and fancy restaurant. As in most departament stores- they are selling there everything from food to clothes, watches and even furniture. Most of the things are luxury designer brands.

As a graphic designer, my eye was caught of course by the logo of Rinascente. When you see people at the city walking around with shopping back (black background with simple white logo on it) you know already that this lady went for shopping to Rinascente :)
